3 Tips to Make Your Move a Success

Springtime often associates with rebirth and the renewal of things. Houses get cleaned from top to bottom, the weather changes for the better, and spring flowers begin to bloom. With all of that, some people begin to take a hard look at their lives to determine if something needs changing. Some decide that change is unnecessary, while others decide that something in their life is missing.

For some of the latter individuals, it may be necessary to move to start a new chapter of their lives. Spring is the perfect time to make that type of transition and fresh start. However, it is important that you consider a few tips as you embark on a springtime move.

1. KNOW WHEN TO MOVE

There are a lot of steps involved when it comes to the overall moving process. However, one of the most important steps is determining the timeframe of when you will move. While you have already decided that you are moving during the spring, you must narrow it down more than that. You need to decide what month, whether you will move on the weekend or during the week, what time of day, etc.

Research has shown that the best months for a spring move is March and April – the earlier, the better. Ideally, you should try to move during the week if you can since weekends are always busier and more costly. Plus, this will allow you to spend your weekend unpacking and preparing for the week ahead.

As far as the time of day, the earlier in the day that you can get started, the better. The weather tends to be nicer, and there is a better chance of feeling energized first thing in the morning once you have had breakfast and coffee. If you wait until later in the day, you may feel sluggish and wishing you could take a nap.

2. KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER FORECAST

While spring may be all about fresh starts, blooming flowers, and warmer weather, you have to realize that this type of year is known for its strong winds and torrential rain, which could quickly ruin your big moving day at a moment’s notice. Therefore, it is imperative that you are constantly staying on top of the weather forecast in the weeks and days leading up to the moving day.

If there are any changes to the weather, you will need to be ready to make changes to the move. If it is only slightly raining and you continue with the move, make sure that you have plastic on standby for boxes, furniture, etc. to avoid unnecessary damage to your belongings. You can also use waterproof containers. Also, make sure that you put down towels on the floor to reduce the risk of anyone slipping and falling from wet shoes.

3. DON’T FORGET TO PACK AN ESSENTIALS BOX

Chances are when you get to your new house that you will not want to unpack everything. With that said, you will want to pack an essentials box. An essentials box is a box that you will pack last and open first. It will contain all of your essentials – items that you will need when you first arrive at your home.

In this box, you should include items like toilet paper, toothbrushes, and toothpaste, change of clothes, deodorant, cutlery, paper plates, phone charger, bedding, and pillow. You can include anything else that you feel is necessary based on your situation. Make sure that you label this box so that it is obvious that it is your essentials box. You wouldn’t want it to be forgotten or get mixed up you’re your other boxes.
